STEP 01
Obtain the official Ledger Live software for macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS, or Android exclusively via ledger.com. Ledger Live serves as the verified bridge for checking portfolio balances, conducting transactions, and updating device firmware safely without ever exposing your private credentials.
STEP 02
Connect the device using the included USB-C cable. On the physical device screen, select 'Set up as new device' and choose an unpredictable 4 to 8 digit PIN. This PIN locks physical access; three consecutive erroneous inputs automatically wipe the device memory to safeguard against unauthorized physical tampering.
STEP 03
Your hardware wallet autonomously displays 24 words one by one. Faithfully transcribe each sequential word onto your provided recovery sheet. This master phrase holds complete cryptographic ownership of your funds. Never photograph it, never type it into computers, and never save it in digital cloud storage.
STEP 04
Launch the Ledger Live genuine check to perform an asymmetric challenge proving that the Secure Element chip (CC EAL6+) is an authentic, unmodified factory unit. Once verified, install app modules (Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, and more) to receive, store, swap, and manage assets with full self-sovereign control.
Ledger will never ask you for your 24-word recovery phrase under any circumstance—not in software apps, customer support tickets, email communications, or browser pop-ups. If a box or website instructs you to enter your 24 words on keyboard or phone, it is a malicious phishing scam. Your private seed belongs only inside the encrypted screen of your offline device.
